There are no January blues at MCE this week – ok, maybe just a little bit (longest month ever – is it payday yet?!)
Instead of letting ‘Blue Monday’ get to us, we kick-started our week with a lunch time yoga session. Expert yogi, Anna Leckey from Hot Yoga Belfast, guided us through a series of gentle stretches and breathing exercises designed to improve posture and increase our concentration and energy levels – we were definitely feeling very zen afterwards. This is the second session we’ve had with Anna, and hopefully not the last.
The good mood continued through the week and we were delighted to welcome Catherine Downey from Health Matters NI for a ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ session. Catherine chatted to us about health and well-being and the small everyday steps we can take to reduce stress and increase our overall happiness and well-being.
We sat down together as a team over a healthy breakfast of fruit and muesli and let Catherine inspire us to get moving, to breathe deep and to make small changes that will hopefully lead to a happier, healthier lifestyle.
We’ve been working with Health Matters for a while now – last year we asked our team what matters most to them in terms of their health, and how we as an organisation can support and promote healthier lifestyles. Out of that we have appointed a health and wellbeing workplace champion and are developing a programme of initiatives and workshops for the year ahead.
We already have a number of initiatives in place, such as fresh fruit in the office and ‘bring your dog to work day’ (best day of the week!) and our minds are racing with all the other positive and fun things we can do at MCE.
Next month we’re pleased to be welcoming Catherine back for a ‘Healthy Hearts’ session (conveniently scheduled for Valentine’s Day!). This session aims to raise awareness of the lifestyle factors that can influence our cardiovascular health with the aim of empowering us to lead a healthier lifestyle for a healthier heart – we’ll report back next month!
