Christmas Arrives At The Merchant

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at The Merchant Hotel with the arrival of the hotel’s iconic Christmas tree.

The impressive tree, which was installed over night by a team of four Merchant elves, took over six hours to dress and now stands at an impressive 25ft tall amidst the festive splendour of The Great Room Restaurant. Embellished with over 300 baubles and 150 metres of fairy lights, the tree is inspired by the elegant style of the Victorian era, with a traditional oxblood red, gold, rose and emerald colour scheme, with intricate, bejewelled owls amongst the lavish features.

It takes a total of four days to decorate the hotel, which is transformed into a truly magical Christmas setting, allowing visitors to celebrate the season in style. Over the last decade, The Merchant’s tree has earned its place as one of the city’s favourites. Pair this with reams upon reams of fairy lights, wreaths galore and roaring open fires adorned with festive garlands and you have one of Belfast’s most magical picture perfect Christmas settings for your festive celebrations.

Gavin Carroll, general manager, The Merchant Hotel said: “The Merchant Hotel prides itself on creating memorable experiences and at Christmas, we like to go the extra mile. Through our Christmas décor, we want to create a magical backdrop befitting the special celebrations that people share with us at this time of year.”

Rachael Lindsay from Blue Moon Design, who developed the theme for this year’s tree, said; “The inspiration for The Merchant’s Christmas décor this year goes right back to a classic Victorian Christmas time, with the inclusion of a rich colour palette and ornate furnishings.

“Details of the décor can be seen throughout the hotel, with the spectacular tree in The Great Room adorned with velvet owls, acorns, gold dusted pinecones, ornate jewelled baubles, gold shell baubles and beaded pomegranates.”

Right across the hotel, The Merchant’s luxurious Christmas celebrations have kicked off with a superb selection of seasonal activities to share with loved ones this year, including festive menus, winter drinks and pampering spa treatments for the party season.

Bringing an extra helping of festive cheer to The Merchant’s celebrations, two local school choirs will perform live under the Christmas tree in The Great Room Restaurant on the first two Saturdays in December. On Saturday 1st December, the Priory College Holywood Choir will perform at 1pm and the Cambridge House Grammar School Senior Choir will take their place under The Merchant’s iconic tree on Saturday 8th December at 1pm.

In the spirit of Christmas giving, The Merchant is calling on people to share their #MerchantMemories on Instagram for the chance to win a range of special prizes, including a £100 Merchant Gift Card.
